A B-1 Business Visitor may enter the U.S. to consult with a U.S. client for work that will be performed abroad for a short term. A B-1 Business Visitor may not engage in productive employment in the U.S, however. Some examples of short-term employment may include a brief business trip, attending a conference or seminar performing research, engaging in litigation, or negotiate a contract.

A B-2 Visitor for Pleasure are for those entering the U.S. for pleasure or tourism, amusement, visits with friends or family, or other non-business-related purposes.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency has become very strict about the activities that may be pursued with a B-1 visa.
